Pigmentation a Top Concern

Pigmentation a Top Concern

This is the time of the year when our clients come flooding through the door asking for solutions for pigmentation concerns as a few extra hours of UVR exposure is starting to make pigmentation more obvious.

Pigmentation is a top skin concern among clients and is only second to aging. The trouble is that since it is such a complex process it is sometimes more challenging to address than aging is, and some treatment modalities can indeed make the condition worse instead of bringing about the promised improvement.

Last week the Canadian Cancer Society brought out some interesting statistics.
CBC News reported on 28 May 2014 that according to the Canadian Cancer Society (please find a link to this story on our facebook page)

" A single, blistering sunburn before the age of 20 can double a person’s chance of developing melanoma. Research also suggests that people who first start using indoor tanning beds before the age of 65 are also at higher risk.

British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and P.E.I. have tanning bed legislation to help protect young people.

The society expects over 80,000 skin cancer cases in Canada this year — nearly the same number of cases of the top four cancers combined, namely lung, breast, prostate and colorectal."

I find this astonishing especially when you consider that skin cancer is most likely more preventable than other cancers. We will take appropriate dietary and exercise measures in an effort to reduce risks of cancer in general, but forget to simply put on good sunscreen and seek out shade for ourselves and our children.

It brings us as professionals in the skin care industry back to the importance of client education. We use opportunities in summer with these inquiries about pigmentation and other skin color concerns to educate our clients about the importance of protection and emphasize that prevention is the best approach. We are not afraid to say no to certain services if our client has a high risk skin. It is not about the dollar, and we know our clients will invest in us when we put what is in your best interest first, and sometimes that means no, or not now. Instead, you'll be encouraged and recomended to use an appropriate home care regime to start preparing your skin for these potential services later on. Believe me; you will thank us for saying no now.

Dermaviduals® Plant Liposome Concentrate is the go to product when it comes to the prevention of pigmentation. Used in combination with Day Cream or Day Cream Plus your clients will have the ultimate solution in the fight against the formation of new pigment.
Plant Liposome Concentrate can be used in neat application or in a custom blended DMS base cream in which case we recommend that you combine it with Vitamin B Liposome Complex and Vitamin C Liposome Concentrate.
